Job Overview

As a Radio and Mobile Electronics Systems Technician you will be instrumental in the Airport’s ability to communicate quickly and effectively across 27 square miles. You will be responsible for installing emergency warning lights, sirens, radios, vehicle tracking systems and computer docking stations in over 500 airport vehicles. You will also help repair, calibrate, and program over 2,000 radios. Your ability to work independently, along with your skill to troubleshoot will be vital in keeping the radios and multiple systems in good working condition.


What you will be doing:

  • Troubleshoots, installs, programs, monitors, repairs and maintains Mobile Electronic Equipment and Systems.
  • Reads, interprets and works from schematics, wiring diagrams and systems technical specifications.
  • Replaces defective components, wiring and adjusts electronic parts to specifications using hand tools, special equipment and soldering irons.
  • Performs communication system upgrades or modifications using a laptop computer with appropriate application software.
  • Tests electronic circuits to locate defective communication and mobile system components using oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, spectrum generators, spectrum analyzers and RF service monitors.

What you need:

•    Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.

•    Three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic systems and equipment.

•    Formal training/certification in general electronics.

•    Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.

•    Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.


What we desire:

  • Knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair principles and practices applicable to P25 Phase 2 trunk system, VHF and UHF Conventional radio systems.
  • Knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair principles and practices applicable to emergency and non-emergency mobile lighting systems.
  • Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain work records and to analyze and evaluate records for planning.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings and detailed electronics system technical specifications.
  • FCC 1st Class (General Radio Telephone) License
