Job Overview

Under general direction of the Senior Project Manager, coordinates the development and implementation of Airport major maintenance and capital improvement projects.  Responsible for the administration and performance of every phase of construction and ensures compliance with contract requirements.  Fosters strong interdepartmental and tenant relationships through detail-oriented service and communication with the customer departments and tenants.  Supervision is exercised directly over construction activities, consultants, and contractors. 

 

What you will be doing:

  • Confers with the Senior Project Manager to develop and implement programs and procedures affecting the Construction Management section.
  • Coordinates construction activities from pre-construction to final project acceptance and contract closeout.
  • Develop and implement systems for review of contractor activity in regards to quality, quantity, and conformity to applicable specifications and codes.  Identifies deficiencies and out-of-scope work requirements and takes appropriate measures to facilitate project completion.
  • Analyzes contracts, evaluates pay requests, reviews submittals and approves contractor schedules; enforces adopted code and design criteria directly or through coordination with the Code Enforcement section.
  • Develops and maintains documentation of daily work and milestone events in the completion of assigned projects to provide timely and uniform periodic management information reports.
  • Provides substantial input on project development and design, project schedules, budgets and documents.  Reviews design in progress to ensure constructability, cost feasibility, and adherence to applicable design criteria.
  • Coordinates activities with Project Management group; may manage construction contracts, exercising considerable discretion.
  • Recommend acceptance or denial of change order requests to Project Manager.

 

What you need:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a related field.
  • Five (5) years professional-level experience in construction management.
  • Two (2) years in a coordinating or lead position.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Knowledge of major construction methods, materials, equipment and contractual requirements of public works construction projects.
  • Knowledge of national, state, and local zoning ordinances, codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of modern cost and scheduling control techniques and ability to apply same in the management of major construction projects.
  • Knowledge of competitive bidding processes.
  • Ability to manage outside contractors in a manner conducive to the timely and efficient completion of work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to influence outside contractors to comply with Airport Board rules, regulations and procedures relating to airport construction projects.
