Job Overview
Under general supervision of the Assistant Police Chief and/or the Sr. Intelligence Analyst, the Crime Analyst will coordinate, evaluate, and analyze criminal intelligence information and suspicious activity reports collected by the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport Police and collaborating agencies. The Crime Analyst will then use their knowledge of administrative, intelligence, tactical, and strategic crime analysis to review and analyze crime reports, interpret patterns and trends, disseminate information, and make recommendations related to possible suspects, potential crimes, location of future crimes, and methods of operation. The position requires US Citizenship with the ability to successfully complete a full criminal history background investigation.
What you will be doing:
Reviews and manages daily calls and reports to identify patterns and trends. Reviews reports concerning targeted crimes. Identifies criminal activity by offense, suspect, geographic location and other factors
Assists in the analysis and evaluation of outside criminal actions to determine changes in criminal capabilities, vulnerabilities, and probable courses of action
Gathers, compiles, maps, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative information and statistical data from a variety of sources to include law-enforcement databases and open-source systems and then fuses that data and information into actionable recommendations and reports
Analyzes raw data and findings showing patterns, trends, and problem areas from printouts, tables, graphs, and/or charts; applies statistical tests to a variety of data; draws conclusions and develops options/ recommendations on a variety of law enforcement trends and issues
Prepares reports, bulletins, case products and oral presentations summarizing findings and conclusions based on interpretation of data for Police and DFW stakeholders
What you need:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with significant coursework in criminal justice, criminology or a related field.
Three years of experience researching, analyzing, and interpreting data, preferably in a law enforcement environment.
Must possess a current certification as a Crime and Intelligence Analyst or another industry standard equivalent.
Must be able to travel and work flexible hours.
Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
Position requires US Citizenship.
Position requires a successful completion of a full criminal history background investigation.
Experience/background in operations and activities within a police department
Experience with police procedures and the theory, principles, practices, and methods of crime analysis
Experience using computer software such as: Windows, Crystal Reports, databases, spreadsheets, word processing, records management systems, etc.
Experience operating computer-aided dispatch systems and GIS systems
Experience with planning, organizing, and writing documentation for computer software applications, and writing/installing script language programs to automate routine processes
Proficient writing skills
Experience/background in publication development and public speaking
Considerable knowledge of research methodologies; the Uniform Crime Report and the National Incident Based Reporting System; State, Federal, and local laws, statistics, and office management methods, procedures, and practices
Considerable knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, and rules and regulations of the airport.
