Job Overview
As an Energy Plant Operations/Maintenance Technician, you will have the opportunity to monitor the continued supply of utility services to our terminals, and other major facilities. You will be responsible for operating, inspecting, maintenance, and repair of several utility systems at the Airport’s energy plant and around the Airport.
What you will be doing:
Under the general direction of Energy Plant Operations and Maintenance Supervisor. The Energy Plant Technician, monitors and operates the Energy plant cooling, heating, and other utility related systems to ensure a continued supply of services to users; assists in monitoring and operating the Energy Plaza computer control systems.
What you need:
- Assists to start-up, operate and shutdown mechanical, electrical, and other energy production systems such as gas/oil fired boilers, chillers, motors, generators, pumps, switchgear, and computer peripheral equipment.
- Under direct supervision, monitors and operates district-cooling centrifugal chillers and associated support/distribution systems, district-heating steam boilers and associated support/distribution systems, potable water pump stations, reclaimed water pump station, sanitary sewer lift stations, stormwater pretreatment plant, source isolation deicing systems, and electrical distribution systems up to 25kV.
- Detects malfunctions in equipment by routine and regular plant inspections, recommend corrective actions, and notifies the appropriate personnel.
- Assists in the operation of the computer console to monitor and control utility related systems, observes deviation from norms and takes corrective action or makes the appropriate notifications.
- Assists in performing chemical analysis on boiler feedwater, condensate, condenser water, chilled water, hot water, and potable water systems.
- Briefs the Senior Energy Plant Operations and Maintenance Technician on shift regarding the operations status of plant and other utility related systems including actual or potential limitations.
- Compiles operational data and maintains logs and computer printouts for management and operations staff reviews; communicates reportable events and equipment status to oncoming shift employees.
- Assists with the maintenance of the utility plants, control room, tunnels; and performs light to moderate maintenance on equipment and systems.
- Assists the Environmental Affairs Department in performing field observations of Airport activities with respect to potential environmental issues and notifies the Environmental Affairs Department of any observations that may have environmental impact.
What we desire:
- Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of industrial power plant operations, maintenance, or related field experience involving, high pressure boilers, electrical generators and/or distribution systems, industrial chilled water/HVAC systems, and/or chemical water treatment and purification systems; OR
- Formal training in one of the following industrial trades:
- Electrical systems.
- HVAC
- Plumbing.
- Welding, pipefitting, or millwright work.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
- Must pass a medical physical examination.
- Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
