Job Overview

Under the general direction of the Manager, Operations - Airfield, plans, monitors, coordinates and manages assets of all airfield activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of airfield areas and compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Airport Board rules and regulations. 

What you will be doing:

  • Supervises and assigns Assistant Airfield Operations Officers and Airfield Operations Agents who provide inspections, coordinate construction and maintenance activities on the Air Operations Area (AOA), and provides escorts in support of aeronautical activities.
  • Documents problems, discrepancies, and non-complying conditions concerning FAR Part 139, security, and tenant activities to appropriate parties and reports for follow-up actions; monitors progress of corrections; determines severity of discrepancies and priority for corrective actions.
  • Acts as the center point of coordination for scheduling activities between airfield users and the FAA Airport Traffic Control Tower(s) for routine and special inspections, tours, maintenance, construction, and other airfield activities.
  • Monitor construction and maintenance activity to ensure compliance with CFR Part 139 and Part 77 standards.  Represents Airfield Operations interests regarding airfield construction and maintenance projects.
  • Conducts wildlife hazard inspections and dispersal operations; maintains records on wildlife hazard management.  Works with Wildlife team to take appropriate steps to mitigate emerging wildlife hazards.
  • Monitors two-way radio communications using Airport Board and FAA Air Traffic Control (ATC) radio frequencies; coordinates vehicular movement within the AOA via FAA ATC radio frequencies when necessary; communicates with various airport and Airport Board personnel via radio, phone, or in person.
  • Initiates, manages, and oversees Airfield Operations response to potential and real emergencies, operational concerns, safety concerns, airfield incidents, and winter weather. This includes dispatching team members and coordinating resources with other internal departments and external stakeholders, in accordance with the Airport Certification Manual.
  • Acts as a representative for Airfield Operations in the Integrated Operations Center. Keeps the IOC Bridge Manager informed of airside impacts, mitigations, and resolution. Additional duties while working out of the IOC may include updating policies, procedures, and regulatory documents.  

What you need:

  • Completion of two (2) years college or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience in airfield operations at a FAR Part 139 certificated large hub airport; OR
  • Three (3) years airfield operations experience and two (2) years in a communications center environment.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
  • Ability to pass an annual firearm safety course.
  • Ability to pass a hunter safety course.
  • Ability to pass NIMS/ICS required courses (100, 200, 700, 800 and future courses that are identified as required)
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (CBP) security access clearance within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for CBP security access clearance upon each CBP security access renewal.
  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport's Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification for work on the shared floor of the DFW Integrated Operations Center.
