Job Overview

Under the instruction of the Driver Training Supervisor or other designated team member, participates in theory and behind-the-wheel (BTW) driver training in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations for Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), with the expectation of achieving a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and moving into the Airport Bus Operator role. Required training must be completed successfully and CDL issued by the State of Texas within six months of employment. Training will also include front-line customer service and transportation of guests for special events, tours, and on the Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) to support irregular operations, emergency response, and airline hardstand events. 

What you will be doing:

  • Provides first-line customer service; assists passengers with information concerning airline and gate locations and on- and off-airport transportation.
  • Under instruction of the Driver Training Supervisor or other designated team member, operates a van or bus, when requested by the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) for special events or airport tours, for evacuation of disabled aircraft, or in the event of emergency or disaster. Responds to Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) to support irregular operations, emergency response, and airline hardstand events.
  • Assists passengers with reduced mobility by providing specialized transportation as required.
  • Completes passenger counts, mileage/time logs, malfunction, and accident reports.
  • May be assigned to non-driving roles on the AOA as operations require.
  • Inspects vehicle fleet for proper mechanical operation and physical condition.
  • Assists customers with luggage and locates and retrieves lost items/passengers.
  •  Responds to customer complaints to customer's satisfaction within Board operating procedures or refers to Driver Training Supervisor for resolution.
  • Responds to customer injuries and emergencies; acts as initial point of contact during these events and relays emergency information to appropriate persons.
  •  Fuels buses and staff vehicles daily, routinely removes trash/debris from inside vehicles and disposes of it in compliance with DFW Board policies and Federal regulations, routinely drives buses and vans through washing and fueling facilities and cleans vehicle interiors.

What you need:

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • One (1) year experience in a position requiring extensive public contact.
  • Possession of a class C driver's license.
  • If incumbent does not possess a Class B CDL, then a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) must be obtained from the State of Texas Department of Public Safety prior to employment. Cost of the CLP and Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement to be borne by DFW Airport.
