Job Overview

Are you a skilled automotive technician with experience in diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles? DFW Airport is seeking a Lead Automotive Technician to supervise and participate in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a variety of vehicles, including snow removal and alternative fuel vehicles. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on automotive expertise and the ability to lead a team.

What you will be doing:

  • Team Leadership: As a lead, direct and participate in the work of Automotive Technicians and Helpers, overseeing the inspection, maintenance, and repair of gasoline, diesel-powered vehicles, and alternative fuel vehicles.
  • Diagnostics: Operate diagnostic machines to analyze mechanical issues and recommend necessary repairs.
  • Hands-On Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance and a full range of repairs on assigned equipment, ensuring the vehicles remain operational and efficient.
  • Vehicle Overhaul: Overhaul and rebuild parts and systems on equipment, and keep supervisors informed of the status of all vehicles and equipment.
  • Technical Analysis: Use various technical tools and test equipment to analyze and repair malfunctions and defects in equipment.
  • Quality Control: Test and operate repaired vehicles to verify service quality and ensure they meet operational standards.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory records of parts, tires, and batteries, ensuring the workshop is well-stocked for repairs.
  • Data Entry: Input repair details into the Fleet Management System and other business applications.
  • Service Calls: Respond to service calls on the airfield side and other areas of the airport as needed

What you need:

  • Education: Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of experience in automotive maintenance and diesel repair.
  • Training: Formal training in automotive mechanics.
  • Driver's License: Possession of a valid Class B commercial driver's license or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of hire.
  • Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
