Job Overview  

Under general direction of the FTRC / FTRC Applications and Maintenance Manager, installs, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains electromechanical systems and subsystems of the FTRC fire props, and assists with mechanical and electrical design modifications as directed.  Helps conduct preventive and corrective maintenance service on installed systems. Assists with the operation and maintenance of the propane control computer systems, databases, water treatment systems, automated valve systems, department breathing air compressors, and sub-systems at the FTRC. Coordinates maintenance activities and FTRC training aid activities with the FTRC staff and FTRC Applications and Maintenance Manager. Ensures compliance of the basics of DFW Airport's Environmental Management System & Environmental Policy and implement Best Management & Good Housekeeping Practices. Conducts monthly status reports on FTRC systems and communicates results to the appropriate parties.  

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Assists with preventive and corrective maintenance service on installed propane fire training systems, automated valve system, KEMCO water treatment system and breathing air compressors and all systems associated with breathing air. 
  • Programs propane fire training systems for various fire scenarios during training activities. 
  • Assists with the troubleshooting and repairs of pneumatic and electro-mechanical systems, subsystems, and components as required. 
  • Assists with inventory control of parts and materials removed or replaced of the FTRC facilities to ensure proper and accurate information of failure to be communicated to the appropriate parties. 

 

What you need:  

  • Associate's degree in engineering, electronics technology, or any related field discipline preferred.  
  • Candidate must obtain a Railroad Commission of Texas Category "E" Liquefied Petroleum Gas Certification within 12 months of date of hire. 
  • Three (3) years of technical service, electrical/electrician service repair and/or maintenance. 
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above. 

 

Skills and Abilities  

  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.  
  • Comprehension of AC power distribution, DC analog and digital signals and controls. 
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory, mechanics, optics, thermal stress, corrosion and general physics. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical, computer systems and high-pressure breathing systems to component level, isolate faults, and take corrective action. 
  • Capability to organize tools, equipment, parts and material necessary to conduct field service activity. 
  • Ability to plan work activities and execute in an efficient, timely manner. 
  • Understanding of portable test equipment, analog and digital multi-meters, and PC hardware and software. 
  • Demonstrated dexterity with common power and hand tools. 
  • Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations related to the certifications in the different areas and requirements to maintain such certifications. 
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the FTRC area. 
  • Ability to evaluate immediate life-threatening situations and make quick decisions for stabilization of an incident. 
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to changing conditions, situations and pressures. 
  • Ability to work in confined spaces below ground or above ground, at heights greater than ten (10) feet, in extreme temperatures and weather conditions, and for long periods of time requiring sustained physical activity and intense concentration. 
  • Ability to perform duties requiring frequent pulling of 55 pounds or more sometimes for long distances.
