Qualifications

Job Overview  

One of the core priorities at DFW Airport is safety, and as a Pavement Maintenance Worker your work will directly impact the safety of the airport. In this position, you will work with an assigned crew to maintain, and repair the concrete, and asphalt surfaces around the airport. Your impactful work will be concentrated on runways, taxiways, roadways, and parking lots. You will have the opportunity to directly ensure the performance of the airport is successful every single day. 

 

What you will be doing: 

Primary Role: 

  1. Assist other departments including Airfield Operations and the Integrated Operations Center on minor miscellaneous task involving public roadways, parking lots, runways, and taxiways.

Example work includes but is not limited to:

a. Responding to emergency situations such as vehicle accidents to assist DPS

b. Responding to calls regarding debris or trash in roadways or parking lots

c. Recovering lost items in storm drains inlets

d. Minor pothole repair using cold patch asphalt

e. Setting or moving cones, barricades, or signage

f. Minor fence, guardrail, and attenuator repairs

g. Empty public trash containers

      2. Operate a pavement sweeper to remove debris and clean roadways, parking lots, runways and taxiways.

      3. Assist and coordinate with Airfield Operations on runway closures.

      4.Operate snow and ice removal equipment during winter weather events.

Equipment list includes but it not limited to:

a. Snowplow and multifunctional equipment

b. Snow broom

c. Snow blower

d. Liquid deicer sprayer

e. Solid deicer and sand spreader

 

Secondary Role:

      5. May work on a crew to excavate, repair, and maintain concrete and asphalt surfaces including runways, taxiways, public roadways, and parking lots.

Example work includes but is not limited to:

a. Spall and pothole repair

b. Asphalt mill and overlay

c. Saw cut, jackhammer, replace rebar, and pour back concrete

d. Concrete curb repair

e. Use of epoxy resin concrete for roadway and bridge repair

f. Mixing of concrete and admixtures

g. Finish surfaces with manual and powered hand tools and equipment

      6. Replace, repair and maintenance of concrete and asphalt joints.

      7. Repair and maintenance of concrete and asphalt cracks.

      8. Repair and maintenance of storm drains and flumes.

      9. Repair and maintenance of guardrails and attenuators.

     10. Repair and maintenance of fencing, razor wire, and barbed wire.

     11. Operates the following types of powered or mobile equipment and vehicles in maintaining concrete and asphalt surfaces:

a. 2 1/2 and 5 ton dump trucks (If licensed to do so)

b. Backhoe, grader, dozer, track loader, box blade, and rubber tire loader

c. Crack sealing machine

d. Asphalt laydown machine

e. Epoxy resin concrete machine

f. Concrete mixer, jackhammer, concrete saw

g. Forklift, skid steer

     12. Setup and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, barrels, arrow boards to create a safe work site.

     13. Setup, and move traffic barriers such as concrete and water filled barricades.

     14. Be on call to respond to emergency situations requiring assistance from the Pavements Shop.

     15. Clean, organize, and restock inventory of materials such as pallets of concrete and cold patch bags

     16. Cleans, checks fluid and gas levels, adds fluid and gas, lubricates vehicles and equipment.

 

 

 

What you need:  

  • Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent; or one (1) year of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted.
  • Possession of a valid Class B commercial driver's license or ability to obtain the license in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
  • Must be able to work rotating shift assignment.
  • Must pass a medical physical examination.
  • Must have a good private driving record: (a) no more than two (2) convictions of moving violations in the last 36 months and (b) no DWI convictions in the last 60 months.
  • This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport's Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

What we desire: 

  • Possession of a valid Class A commercial driver's license
  • Previous experience in concrete or asphalt repair and finish.
  • Training in a related field.
