Job Overview

As an Instrumentation and Controls Technician you will be responsible for ensuring that the electrical signals for the many multi-million-dollar assets located across the Airport are properly received. Your ability to work independently, along with your skill to troubleshoot will be instrumental in keeping the systems in optimal working condition.

What you will be doing:

  • Troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and installing industrial and utility related control systems and instrumentation.
  • Reading and interpreting specifications, diagrams and schematics detailing instrumentation and control systems installation and maintenance requirements and operating parameters.
  • Testing faulty components and circuits using test equipment such as generators and multimeter; performing bench repair of components and circuits, replacing defective components and wiring and calibrating equipment according to specifications.
  • Maintaining pneumatic, electro-mechanical, electrical and electronic measurement standards traceable to appropriate N.I.S.T. standards.
  • Calibrating measurement and test equipment/instruments using N.I.S.T. traceable standards.
  • Maintaining records of repairs, calibrations and tests, orders parts, supplies and equipment when authorized by supervisor.

What you need:

•     Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.

•     Three (3) years of maintenance/repair experience on microprocessor-based pneumatic/electronic instrumentation and control systems.

•     Formal training in instrumentation and controls technology or a related field.

•     Prior certification, or ability to satisfactorily complete:

a.      The State of Texas “Certified Wastewater Collection System Operator” Class I certification within one year.

b.      The State of Texas Class D Water Works Operator certification within one year.

c.      Ability to successfully obtain a Universal Refrigerant license within one year of employment.

•     Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.

•     Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.


What we desire:

  • Knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in maintenance of pneumatic/electronic instruments and control systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair malfunctions/defects in electronic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Ability to document work and maintain accurate records of installation, test results and repairs.
  • Ability to pass a color vision deficiency test.
  • Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
  • Performs manual labor, frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Works in conditions subject to inclement weather from below 35¿ to above 100¿.
  • Occasionally works in confined spaces.
  • Climbs stairs and ladders, frequently while carrying tools and/or equipment.
  • Ability to work on elevated surfaces not to exceed 150 ft.
